Trusted tree care for Kingwood since 1993

Out on acreage, the nearest help is a long way off, which is why the crew and the cover both have to be right. Wayne's is registered as NJTC No. 806860, employs Peter Ahlert under operator license LTCO No. 565, and is owned by Dylan Ahlert. Fully insured on every job.

Kingwood is rural Hunterdon — farmland, woodlots and long private drives. Open ground means we can usually set the crane up and take a large tree down in one clean operation. It also means one fallen tree can close a drive completely, which is why we answer the phone around the clock this far out.

02 Our Services

Our Residential and Commercial Tree Services in Kingwood, NJ

At Wayne’s Tree Service, we proudly serve the Kingwood community with safe, affordable, and expert-level tree care.

Tree Removal Service

Tree Removal

Where the access allows it, the crane does the job in fewer, heavier pieces. Less time with a climber in the tree, less time with weight swinging over the house, and a faster clean-up. It is the safest way we have to take down a big declining tree.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Limbs growing into service lines are not a DIY job and not always yours to cut. We clear what we are allowed to clear and tell you plainly when the utility has to be the one to do it.

When to prune, by species
Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump Grinding & Removal

How deep we grind depends on what you want the space for. Six to ten inches below grade is enough to lay sod or seed; if you are replanting or pouring a patio, we take more out and clear the root plate as well.

Tree & Shrub Planting service

Tree & Shrub Planting

Planted too deep is the quiet killer. The root flare — where the trunk widens at the base — has to sit at or just above grade. Bury it and the tree can take years to fail, long after anyone connects the two.

Land Clearing Service

Land Clearing

Clearing for a build is about what stays as much as what goes. Mature trees you keep have to be protected from the machinery, or you will lose them two years later to root compaction and not know why.

Storm Cleanup

24/7 Emergency Tree Service

Storm work needs the equipment ready before the storm. Cranes and bucket trucks that are already ours, already serviced and already crewed are why we can answer on the night rather than take a message.

03 Local Rules

Kingwood's 2024 Ordinance Is Built for Farm Country

Kingwood created Chapter 121 in August 2024. A permit is required for any tree of 6 inches DBH or more, for street trees from 2.5 inches, and for anything in a riparian area, floodplain, conservation easement or steep slope. Fees start at $10 a tree and scale down per tree as the count rises. Trees have to be flagged before the Zoning Officer inspects.

The exemptions are where this ordinance shows its rural character. Tree farms, nurseries, orchards and garden centers are out entirely, as is silviculture under a woodland management plan — but only if that plan is active and on file with the Township, which is a real condition people miss. There is also a firewood allowance for your own use: up to three trees an acre a year, capped at 30% of the trees on the property, and not available for specimen trees or protected areas.

  • Permit required from 6 inches DBH (2.5 inches for street trees)
  • Fees from $10 per tree, scaling with the number removed
  • Firewood for your own use: up to 3 trees per acre a year, capped at 30% of the property
  • Tree farms, nurseries and orchards are fully exempt
  • Woodland management exemption applies only if the plan is on file with the Township
  • Administered by the Zoning Officer, 908-996-4276
